ISO9001 is the International Standard for Quality Management Systems. All the requirements of ISO 9001:2015 are generic and are intended to be applicable to any organization, regardless of its type or size, or the products and services it provides.
As reported in the Chartered Quality Institute’s Whitepaper in 2015, the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) conducts annual surveys that are designed to provide an insight into the worldwide adoption of ISO’s management system standards. The then latest edition of the survey (2013) revealed a healthy growth across the board for all management system standards as at the end of 2012, with a total of 1.5 million certifications globally. Of these, 1.1 million were against the previous Quality Standard, ISO 9001:2008, exceeding the total issued against all other ISO management system standards combined by a factor of 3 to 1.
Key to the successful implementation of a Management System to the ISO9001 Standard is the adoption of the process approach. The purpose of the process approach is to enhance an organization’s effectiveness and efficiency in achieving its defined objectives, including enhancing customer satisfaction by meeting customer requirements.
